Wi-Fi 6 represents the latest advancement in Wi-Fi technology. It is compatible with all previous versions of Wi-Fi devices, meaning that when you upgrade to a Wi-Fi 6 router or access point, your older devices will still be able to connect. However, to experience the new features and benefits, your devices must support Wi-Fi 6. Wi-Fi 6 is also known as 802.11ax, but this name is difficult to remember and compare. To simplify, the IEEE Standards Association renamed 802.11ac as Wi-Fi 5 in October 2018, and older protocols were also renamed in the format of Wi-Fi + a number, making it easier to remember and compare: the larger the number, the newer the version.
Doubled Speed
Wi-Fi 6 acts like an upgraded warehouse with greater capacity and intelligence. It can simultaneously coordinate multiple trucks to deliver products to different customers, far outperforming Wi-Fi 5 in efficiency.
Enhanced Battery Life
Wi-Fi 6 introduces the Target Wake Time (TWT) mode, which schedules data transmission based on device needs, achieving more precise power savings.
Improved Security
Wi-Fi 6 adopts the more secure WPA3 encryption method, optimizing the connection handshake phase to prevent brute-force attacks. It also supports modern methods for securely adding devices, such as QR codes, passwords, NFC, and Bluetooth, through the new DPP protocol.
Strong Anti-Interference Capability
Multiple Wi-Fi routers or access points on the same frequency band can interfere with each other, affecting performance. Wi-Fi 6 uses BSS Coloring technology to “color” each router or access point, so that only devices of the same color can interfere with each other. It can also automatically switch to idle frequency bands, reducing interference.
Applications of Wi-Fi 6
Given the benefits of Wi-Fi 6, we can already guess where it can be used.
Due to its fast speed, Wi-Fi 6 can enhance home entertainment experiences, providing faster speeds and lower latency for gaming. Its strong anti-interference capability also ensures that smart home devices won’t interfere with each other.
In office areas, file transfers can be faster, and remote office data latency can be lower.
In public places where many people need to use the internet simultaneously, Wi-Fi 6 offers stronger anti-interference and higher security.
In the education sector, Wi-Fi 6 can support a large number of online classes.
In the entertainment industry, the latency of AR/VR technology will be reduced, enhancing the user experience.
In industrial IoT, Wi-Fi 6 enables low-latency and reliable control of machinery.
Wi-Fi 6 is also gradually playing a significant role in medical, smart city, and connected vehicle applications.
Wi-Fi 6 in Ansjer Surveillance Products
Ansjer’s Wi-Fi 6 security camera & system products currently cover standalone devices and sets, and the company is gradually upgrading its products to support WiFi 6. Security Camera Models that already support WiFi 6 are available. For more information, please click to view.
